Our Fabulous Farm Visit

Today we went to the Hayward's Farm - Premier Cattle Company in Cambridge.

We saw two cows named Sweetie and Blueprint. The farmer Derek showed us how to milk the cow. We tried to hand milk Sweetie and Blueprint.

We made ear tags on a bit of cardboard.

We put our finger in the cup to feel the suction. The cup goes on the cow to milk it and in the dishwasher to get clean.

We gave the milk from the cows to feed the calves.

We watched the calves drink the milk. They were very hungry!

We met out buddies from Ruma Warou at Goodwood School. Their school is across the road from the farm.

You can see their blog to read about their farm visit and today's visit from us. We had a wonderful day full of experiences. Thank you Derek for having us visit today, we hope the cake was delicious.
Thank you to Dairy Nz too for helping us with our trip. We loved looking at all our
Rosie's World goodies.

Making an apple cake

We are going to the farm tomorrow. This apple cake is for the farmer to say thanks for having us to visit and showing us around his farm. We hope we have a good time at the farm.

We used this recipe:

Spiced Apple Cake
125 g butter
1 cup of cooked apples or 225g can apples
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp each nutmeg, allspice and salt
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup sultanas

Preheat oven to 150 degrees C. Melt butter and combine in a bowl with the apple and egg. Leave to stand for five minutes. Sift dry ingredients. Add to the apple mixture along with the sultanas, stirring until just blended. Spread in a greased 20cm tin and bake for 50 minutes or until springy to touch.
Sprinkle with icing sugar when cool.
