Our Own Bridge

In our museum trip, we learned about parts of a bridge. We also got to try and construct our own bridge. This new learning inspired our akomanga to try and create their own bridge in class.

Greedy Cat!

One nice day, Greedy Cat came to room 16. We have to feed Greedy Cat. His colour is orange and brown. Greedy Cat is so bossy. I said “Greedy Cat, you need to be kind.”

Greedy Cat came to room 16 smelly. I didn’t sit near him even at lunch time or maths. I wasn’t his friend. I told him to go have a bath because he smells awful with dry crusty hair.

One wonderful afternoon, it was time to do maths. There was a loud purr so I answered the door. There was a cute fuzzy brown ginger coloured cat and guess what? He even smells like the garden. When I rub it’s tummy, he purrs. I brought him home and he stayed with me forever until I’m 23. I give him a bath in the tub covered with bubbles everyday so he’ll be soft.

One sunny day, Greedy Cat came to room 16. He was stinky and fat. Greedy Cat had been very hungry. He is ginger brown and has fluffy fuzzy hair with big paws, angry and bossy. He meows and goes for a walk by himself.

One windy day, a little meow soundcame at the door. We opened the door and it ws a big plump Greedy Cat. He was fat like a pumpkin with tiny pieces of biscuits in his mouth and everywhere. My mum said we can keeo him but we need to wash him.

One lovely day, I saw Greedy Cat and he was covered with mud and flowers. I carefully picked him up to put him in the bathtub. I picked the flowers off him and put a towel under him so he doesn’t fall out or scratch me. I put warm water in the tub. I cleaned the mud off him and he said “meow!”.

One Friday morning at school, my Greedy Cat followed me to school. At lunch, he was very hungry so I gave him some of my fish sandwich. Then Greedy Cat was full. After school, me and Greedy Cat went home and I gave him a bath, he smells like roses.

Once upon a time, Greedy Cat needed food because he hates broccoli and cat biscuits. He ate all but he still hates it.

Greedy Cat came to room 16. I would love it so much but when when I saw Greedy Cat, he was so fat. I asked him “what happened to you Greedy Cat? Eat more lettuce right now or else you’re in trouble. Go run after you eat all the food.”

One beautiful day, I was walking on the street and I saw a cat. He looked ginger brown and kept on purring. I hate it when people make noise but I did not care. I gave him some yummy looking food. I wanted to eat it too. Then it went home.

Maze

Room 16 had "The Gardener's Maze" for their shared book. The class enjoyed learning how the gardener think, planned and made his maze.

This inspired the children to make their own mazes.
On the last day of enjoying the book, we made a maze using the things we see in our classroom. We then learned some positional terms such as forward, backward, left and right turns. We also learned the term 'debug' to go back to the original position. The children had a lot of fun working in pairs and figured out ways on how to solve their own puzzles.

Maker Space Activity

Room 16's Maker Space activity for weeks 1 and 2 is to find some solution for the current problem of Hamilton City. With the move from old recycle bins to new ones, plastic bottle caps are not to be recycled anymore. This meant that plastic bottle caps will end up in the regular bins and add up to our rubbish. Room 16 tamarikis brainstormed together and thought about some ideas on how they can re-use bottle caps so they do not end up with general rubbish. Days of brainstorming and planning ended with a day to 'create' and put their ideas into reality. Some students made useful home display such as photo frames, coasters while some went to the extra ordinary like game boards, animal figures and transportation vehicles. It was indeed a very fruitful and fun day for the tamariki, this also created in them a love for the environment because we want to help reduce waste materials.

Planting in Room 16

Yesterday, room 16 put little seeds in little pots. I got a cauliflower seed. I want my plant to grow.

by Oto

Yesterday, Ivy grabbed some oaoer pots. We designed it with pens. Some classmates designed theirs with flowers. We watered the soil and put them in pots. We dropped the seed in pots. I planted a leek.

Yesterday, Room 16 was delighted to plant a vegetable. I planted a lettuce seed. This is how we planted: First, mwe put a seed and then water on top of the soil. Ivy put the mixture in our pot. I'm going to say nice words to my plant at Takaro time so it can grow for me.

Today, I planted a carrot in a small pot. Ivy smashed the soil with a fork, then put the dirt back. I sprayed it with water. I wonder if we could make a garden, that will be good. My grandad would be so happy but he is not here.

Yesterday, Room 16 planted a seed. We decorated the pot of plant. We also wrote our names on the pot. The next day, we looked at the plant and my one grew a bit.
